Door klimaatverandering worden deze droge periodes steeds frequenter en heviger.<\/p><p>Een belangrijke strategie om dit tegen te gaan, is het vasthouden van regenwater op de plek waar het valt. Dit betekent dat regenwater niet direct moet worden afgevoerd via het oppervlaktewatersysteem, maar lokaal moet worden vastgehouden om de grondwaterspiegel te verhogen.<\/p><p>Om effectieve maatregelen te nemen, hebben we echter nauwkeurige gegevens nodig over waar water wordt vastgehouden en hoe het zich verplaatst. Huidige topografische kaarten schieten hierin tekort, vooral buiten stedelijke gebieden. Deze techniek kan op basis van satellietbeelden en luchtfoto\u2019s automatisch verschillende typen vegetatie en bodemstructuren identificeren, zoals heide, gras, zand, bomen en agrarische gewassen. Hieruit blijkt dat veel minder heide (paars) aanwezig is in dit gebied dan de topografische kaart doet vermoeden. innovatie:<\/strong> De ontwikkelde modellen en methodologie\u00ebn worden open source gedeeld, zodat andere waterschappen en experts ze kunnen gebruiken en
